Site navigation below

The Code Style site has evolved by gradual refinement and accumulation of features and content. This review is part of a fully backdated site log and archive that sheds light on when, why and how particular features were implemented.

This log is sometimes updated several times per week, sometimes with a long overdue backlog of items. Many log entries refer to the Code Style Java package that delivers the servlet services and utilities used to manage this site.

Reverse chronology

25th October 2003

Completed a first draft GUI version of a log file management application, initially very basic but with scope to bring it into the main org.codestyle package. Needs factoring out into separate components.

14th October 2003

Added a link to the Javascript FAQ: How can I generate a quiz results page?, not previously included in the question menu.

Javascript "how to"

8th October 2003

Re-started the site servlet container after an anonymous reader reported HTTP 500 errors on a number of RSS feeds. It appears the Java Virtual Machine had crashed or run out of resources. Services resumed as normal when the servlet container was restored.

4th October 2003

Finalised the new Validate your markup with NSGMLS article and added a link to the Code Style home page. Also added a link to a minimal index page for the site HTML & XHTML section, but not included in standard site navigation for the time being. Also created a HTML & XHTML table of contents page.

Added a text-decoration: underline; rule to External link classes' on pseudo element A:hover to match other link states.

3rd October 2003

Added title attribute tool tips to the book cover illustrations on the section and subsection navigation boxouts to refer users to the text links beneath them. Added a document.getElementById clause to one of the examples in the FAQ: Javascript & DOM page.

2nd October 2003

Captured a set of screen shots to illustrate NSGMLS set up for EditPlus and NSGML set up for UltraEdit for the new Validate your markup with NSGMLS article. Prepared a table of contents server side include file for the new HTML tools section.

10th October 2003

Captured a set of TextPad screen shots to illustrate NSGMLS set up for TextPad, part of a new article, Validate your markup with NSGMLS.
